The Legalization Center provides an apostille for almost all types of documents issued in Greece.

Apostille requirements in Greece

Greece acceded to the 1966 Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents. Therefore, for the use of documents issued in Greece, higher verification (superlegalization) is not required, and an apostille is sufficient.

  • It is possible to apostille the original document or its notarized copy.
  • It is not possible to apostille documents that contain foreign stamps or other markings. The document must also be in good condition and the stamps on the document must be clearly legible.
  • The apostille certificate is a stamp that has a rectangular shape. The information on the stamp is always filled in the Greek language and the heading of the stamp necessarily includes the French title Apostille (Convention de la Haye du 5 octobre 1961).

Which Greek documents can be apostilled

  • Birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates
  • Criminal record extracts
  • Educational documents (certificates, diplomas)
  • Extract from the commercial register
  • Court decisions
  • Notarized copies of documents
  • Notarized translations
  • Documents with a notarized signature (powers of attorney, declarations, etc.)
  • Commercial documents (articles of association, certificates of registration, tax registrations, etc.)

Specifics for individual documents

Educational documents

For diplomas, certificates, and other documents regarding education acquired in Greece, a notarized copy is usually apostilled.

It is sufficient to deliver the original document to us; we will then arrange its certified copy and subsequently the apostille.

Powers of attorney from a notary

The original document itself is apostilled.
