Apostille Australia

Australia acceded to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents of 1966. Therefore, for the use of documents issued in Australia, higher verification (superlegalization) is not required, and an apostille is sufficient.

  • It is possible to apostille exclusively the original document, only after which can a potential notary copy be prepared.
  • It is not possible to apostille documents containing foreign stamps or other markings. The document must also be in good condition, and the stamps on the document must be clearly legible.
  • The apostille clause is a rectangular stamp. The data on the stamp are always filled in the English language, and the heading of the stamp necessarily includes the French title Apostille (Convention de la Haye du 5 octobre 1961).

Which Australian documents can be apostilled

  • Birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates
  • Criminal record extracts
  • Educational documents (certificates, diplomas)
  • Extract from the commercial register
  • Court decisions
  • Notarized copies of documents
  • Notarized translations
  • Documents on which the signature was verified by a notary (powers of attorney, declarations, etc.)
  • Commercial documents (articles of association, certificates of registration, tax registrations, etc.)
