Requirements for an apostille in the Czech Republic
The Czech Republic acceded to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents of 1966. Therefore, for the use of documents issued in the Czech Republic, higher verification (legalization) is not required, but an apostille is sufficient.
- It is possible to apostille exclusively the original of the document, only subsequently is it possible to prepare a potential notary copy.
- It is not possible to apostille documents that contain foreign stamps or other markings. The document must also be in good condition and the stamps that are on the document must be clearly legible.
- The apostille clause is a stamp that has a rectangular shape. The data on the stamp are always filled in the Czech language and the heading of the stamp necessarily also contains the French heading Apostille (Convention de la Haye du 5 octobre 1961).
Which Czech documents can be apostilled
