Birth certificate apostille from Russia

If you have a birth certificate that was issued in Russia and you want to use it abroad, it must be apostilled in Russia.

What we have provided for the client

The client needed to secure an apostille for a birth certificate that was issued back in 1986 in Russia. It was not possible to secure an apostille for such an old birth certificate. If the client needed to apostill the original birth certificate directly, it would be necessary to request a duplicate of it and then apostill it.

However, in her case, it was enough for the client to apostille a notarized copy. From the original, we secured a certified copy of the birth certificate at a Russian notary and subsequently apostilled this notary copy.

With the second client, we also had a newer version of the birth certificate available, we apostilled the original directly. Below you can see a preview of the old and newer Russian birth certificate.

What does the Apostille clause mean on a document?

Because the document was issued abroad, the local authorities must be sure that the document is genuine. In this case, it means that the notary who certified the original Russian birth certificate is verified.

The stamp and signature of the notary is verified on the document – this person’s signature model. Subsequently, the original document is given an apostille stamp, the document prepared in this way can be used in Slovakia or in another country.
